What is babesiosis and what are its symptoms?

Babesiosis: a disease caused by a tick-borne single-celled blood parasite

Symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weakness
  • Pale mucous membranes, yellow mucous membranes
  • Rapid pulse and breathing
  • Brownish red urine

IMPORTANT: Urgent medical attention required! Kidney damage is common, so every day that passes reduces your pet’s chances of survival and complication-free.

Protection against ticks, and therefore babesiosis, is of highly importance for our outdoor pets! Conscious owners are advised to pay extra attention to prevention and to contact a veterinarian as soon as possible, even at the slightest sign of illness.
